It lives in every person's life, greed has motivated everyone to want something more or something that someone has. In the book The Hound of The Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle the characters are full of greed and the selfish desire to be great or have something greater. Not all of them have been successful in the pursuit. Greed has motivated the characters to kill, become jealous, and lie to one another. Stapleton to become jealous. When Holmes had been asked for help on the case, he was informed that he was the “second highest expert in Europe-”(9) Holmes was shocked and intrigued to know who the first was. This may have developed a bit of jealousy and, motivated Holme to solve the case and prove to Mr. Mortimer that he was indeed the best expert. Later on Holmes was supposedly in London, so he sent Dr. Watson in his place to keep an eye on Sir Henry( the next heir of the Baskerville estate).
