Conan Doyle has inspired many writers to recreate the making of Hound of the Baskervilles. The story is easy to manipulate and change around, and with that being said, so are the characters. Many authors have perceived the characters in different ways, especially the intricately crafted, John Watson and, the one and only, Sherlock Holmes. Holmes isn’t the most present in the series hound of the Baskervilles. Due to the fact he was hiding away at the moor, but Holmes’ personality was easily distinctive among all. He is intelligent, he is always right, and never has of self-doubt. After Holmes sees the body of the red-herring, Selden and mistakes it for Sir Henry’s, he actually states that he was wrong: “I am more to blame than you, Watson. In order to have my case well rounded and complete, I have thrown away the life of my client. It is the greatest blow which has befallen me in my career. But how could I know—how could I know—that he would risk his life alone upon the moor in the face of all my warnings (Chapter 8, Line 82.)” This is what makes him actually a good person. After all the times he betrayed Watson, and after all the times he never got one power of deduction wrong, he actually admitted this time his wrongdoing. The Sherlock Holmes movie series shows this the best. Readers are shown Holmes’ psychological superhuman powers making it seem as though he isn’t even a real person, but after apologizing for mistaking the body for Sir Henry, he seems more of an actual human being. This also shows readers that Holmes actually cares about responsibilities when it comes to his job. He takes it seriously that he has messed up and admits it.
