I would be thrilled to be an adviser and/or serve on a House Board for the chapter!” With this strong initial interest, we have already begun identifying potential advisers and leaders to assist the chapter. A local adviser is assigned to each chapter officer to serve as a mentor. Upon receiving an invitation to establish a Kappa chapter, we immediately begin training local alumnae to ensure they are confident in their advisory roles. All advisers receive ongoing training through webinars and workshops and have access to additional resources, including an Advisory Board Specialist who is assigned to the district. The House Board works with the chapter’s House Chairman and House Director to ensure the chapter facility meets the needs of the members. As you are well aware, the demands and expectations of House Boards continue to expand. Kappa supports local House Boards through our House Board Committee and our professional staff at Kappa Kappa Gamma Headquarters. The House Board committee brings years of House Board and Kappa experience. Each member focuses on a specific area of House Board responsibilities, such as housing projects and renovations, serves as a subject-matter expert. Staff members at Kappa Headquarters serve as day-to-day contacts for our House Boards on a variety of issues, including finances, human resources and legal. The close collaboration between the local House Board, the House Board Committee and staff members ensures our chapters have the facilities they need to be successful on their campuses and a home away from home. For the new Kappa chapter at ISU, the Fraternity will either purchase or lease a chapter facility, similar to how a National Housing Corporation operates. The Fraternity will provide full support in order to get the facility up and running and will continue to provide additional support until the facility and the local House Board are sustainable. Leadership schools or conventions Leadership development is an integral part of the Kappa experience and ensures that our members embrace the idea of women elevating women. Like ISU, we want to integrate a global focus by instilling the values of integrity and excellence from the very beginning of each member’s Kappa journey. One way Kappa promotes and fosters the leadership abilities of emerging chapter leaders and alumna members is through Leadership Academy, an intergenerational, life-changing retreat that impacts more than 250 women each year.
