The best quality is to have an interesting plot because without a interesting plot the book will be unpleasant. The starter sentence is a little weak in the book but it still caught my attention. The starter sentence is important because it either makes the reader want to continue reading or put down the book without a second thought. I think that the starter sentence could have been better in The House of the Scorpion because it barely caught my attention because it is talking about stuff that I am not going to know right off the top of my head, but it makes since as you get into the book.
