9/11: How it Changed Air Travel
9/11 was the worst tragedy that has ever occurred in U.S. history. There have been many tragedies involving terrorists, but none have used airplanes as combative weapons. In addition to this, the attacks were broadcast on live TV, horrifying everyone who had watched them. Since everyone was now petrified of airplanes, this obviously impacted the air travel industry since nobody would ever dream of flying. So, 9/11 impacted the air travel system the most out of any other tragedy.

At 7:49 AM Flight 11 takes off. What the passengers expected to be a normal flight would eventually take a turn for the worse. It was a normal day. People on board were getting on the plane, getting comfy, and expecting to land at 2:14PM est. Around 15 minutes after the flight took off, the terrorists made their way to the cockpit. Everyone on board was petrified. They sent their last calls, messages, pictures, ect to their loved ones, then the tragedy struck. At 8:46 AM, Flight 11 crashes into the twin towers. The crash killed all 81 passengers on board, 5 being hijackers, and trapped everyone above the 91st floor inside the World Trade Center. The second plane, Flight 175, took off at 8:14AM. The terrorists attacked this plane as well. Flight 175 hit the tower at 9:03 AM. There were 56 people on board, 5 being hijackers, and 9 being crew. Every single one of them gone. But unlike Flight 11, this time, the whole world had watched this on television. This tragedy had now become a worldwide suffering. on October 10th, 2001. The rewards for information on Osama bin Laden was 25 million dollars. With this large amount, many began looking for information on him. The U.S. went into Afghanistan to look for Osama bin Laden or any of the al Qaeda terrorists. However, neither were found and they were able to escape capture from the government. Osama bin Laden managed to elude capture for many years after that. Eventually, in August 2010, the U.S. intelligence found a compound in Pakistan that he was most likely living in. Then on May 2nd, 2011, President Obama ordered a special operation unit to invade the compound and kill Osama bin Laden. President Obama then stated that: “Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader; he was a mass murderer of Muslims. Indeed al Qaeda has slaughtered scores of Muslims in many countries, including our own. So his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and
