These actions affect people differently. In the novel Tangerine, Paul the main character has to deal with actions from his family, especially from his brother Erik that affect him physically and mentally. Erik’s choices impacted Paul in a negative way. In the novel Tangerine, Erik is the reason Paul is visually impaired. When Paul moved to Tangerine Middle, he became friends with the soccer team. One of the teammates named Tino, he and Paul became really close. One day Paul invited Tino, Thersa, and Henry to finish their science project. When an unexpected surprise came their way. Tino started to make fun of Erik. Erik didn´t find it very funny though. ¨Erik´s face started to contort. The snake smile was gone now, replaced by something else. But Tino kept it up: ¨Yeah. I really like the thing you do, Funny Guy, When you pretend to kick a football and then you go flyin´ up in the air and then you land right on your ass.¨ Immediately, faster than I thought he could, faster than Tino thought he could, Erik lashed out, smashing the back of his hand across Tino´s face, smashing him so hard that Tino spun halfway around in the air and landed on the grass.¨ (Bloor 205) Erik had hit Tino very hard in the face! This had made a big impression on Paul’s family. This is not the best idea Erik had. This gets Tino very angry. “I tried to get Tino to come inside, but he wouldn’t. He wouldn’t talk to me or even look at me.”(Bloor 206) Paul started worrying. Could he have lost a real friend because of his brother? Or was he just as scared as Tino? Paul fears his brother a lot and what he can do. He doesn’t see Tino the next day and it worries him a lot. Paul thought Tino hated him very much. This hurt Paul mentally because it made Paul over think and make conclusions in his
