I have been dancing for 13 years, I started when I was just 4 years old. Dance helped me really become who I am today, it shaped me as a person and was an emotional release through hard times or when I just wasn’t feeling myself. Dance was and still is an emotional escape but also a learning experience. I learned that doing something I loved and was good at helped me deal with my feelings and emotions in a healthy way. Dance was and always will be a huge part of my life. I feel as though my application wouldn’t be complete without dance because it was always a big part of my life and my school careers so far. Dance really helped me throughout my life especially when I reached high school. Dance was an escape from the real world, it calmed me down and always put me in a better mood if I wasn’t having a good day. Whenever I couldn’t get a new skill or add another turn to my pirouette I would practice and try it a different way. I learned to apply this to my life outside of dance when something wasn’t going the way I wanted it to, or I was having trouble memorizing something. I would try doing it in a new and different way that I hadn’t tried before. Trying new ways of studying and new methods of getting homework done really helped me in do much better in school. Within trying new ways of doing school work I found more efficient ways of doing certain things that helped me get my work done faster with the same amount of effort; this allowed me to get more sleep and do better at school the following day. Dance really taught me a lot of problem solving skills that I can use in dance class, at work, and in school. The skills I learned in dance will stay with me for the rest of my life and will forever be a tool that I will
