How Did Al Capone Become A Leader In The 1930s

During the 1930’s organized crime was a major threat to the FBI and was increasingly becoming more popular every day. Members of the Mafia grew, making it a major issue for the government to handle. A Mafia is an organized international body of criminals which originally operated in Sicily, and has a complex and ruthless behavioral code. ("Copy of The Philadelphia Crime Family." Prezi.com. There he moved in a house with his family. In Chicago, he became very close with a man named John Torrio in 1922. Torrio was highly ranked and was the boss of a mob. Capone and Torrio began working together and Capone became the manager of Four Deuces. This was a headquarters which served multiple purposes. However, he was almost later shot. This left everything to be inherited to Capone because Torrio was afraid of what would happen to these things if he died. Capone was now the boss. Members of his mob and others began to call him “Big Fellow.” He took over everything of Torrio’s and with all of his business made an income of $100,000,000 a year. This was a major setback for him with his career. Later on in his life both his physician and psychiatrist both came to a result that he had the mentality of a twelve-year-old child. (“FBI mobile Site” FBI Mobile Site N.P., n.d. Web 07 Feb. 2016”) This helped to explain some of the decisions that he had made during his lifetime. These decisions would affect thousands of people.
Most of Capone’s work took place during the Prohibition Era. The Prohibition Era was a ban on the selling, buying, importation, and transportation of alcoholic beverages which lasted from 1920 to 1933. He made over $60 million from selling illegal whiskey. Capone died from a stroke and pneumonia on January 25,1947 after spending his last years on Palm Island with his family. When he was first diagnosed with paresis, Capone was unable to continue his career of working in crime. He did not have the physical strength to keep doing what he had been with his job.
