The Sicilian Mafia has had a major influence on society in the United States. A similar pattern of influencing and involvement with communities allowed the mafia to grow in America. During prohibition Al Capone the most ruthless gangster known for many killings that happened in his short amount of time. Although he was very smart and was never found doing anything wrong all criminal activity in Chicago led right back to this mastermind. Citizens were afraid to intervene or report crime because police wouldn’t protect them from the violence on the streets. Crime sky rocketed, and the size of the Sicilian Mafia started grew greatly like a wild fire. The mafia had a hand in almost all illegal activity going around their turf. However, drugs, alcohol, and guns were the biggest draw to the mafia. Bootlegging was the biggest international travel for the mafia because the prohibition era. As I said earlier Canada was supplying a bunch of alcohol past the border.
