US Airways started in 1939 as All-American Aviation where it delivered air-mail to areas in Pennsylvania and the Ohio Valley. All-American Airways quickly grew into Allegheny Airlines, US Air and finally US Airways after several buy outs and mergers. (US Airways 2014) In 1949 All American Aviation began its first name change to All American Airways and also transitioned from the sole delivery of mail to that of a passenger carrier. 1953 brought the second name change to Allegheny Airlines in its efforts to recognize the mountains and river of the same name that lie within the heart of the airline’s network. 1968 brought about the first merger for Allegheny Airlines with an Indianapolis based company call Lake Central Airlines which helped …show more content…

Stephen Wolf was elected chairman in 1996 after 38 years with the company and the following year he announced another name change to US Airways. Wolf reigns as CEO until 2002 when David Siegel take over and begins a mammoth restructuring which includes a Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August of that year.
