The pagans didn’t always believe in Christianity. At one point in their life, their beliefs were battle, glory, & fame. However, they were introduced to Christianity by the Romans, this caused a shift in beliefs. Stories like Beowulf were changed to fit the Christian image. While Christianity had a strong impact on the pagan, Rome was also the reason the pagans made such a significant cultural change. In the story of Beowulf, the infusion of Christian elements, reference to biblical stories, Grindel being a descendant of Cain and Abel & Beowulf referring to God in one of his battles. In the part “Grindel” the text says,” He was the spawn in that slime, conceived by a pair of those monsters born of Cain, Murderous creatures banished by God,
