The Roaring 20s brought a lot of daily excitement and change as United States saw new developments in industry. The stock market was high and all seemed well. America was changing drastically in a good way but little did they know one event would change millions of lives for the worse. While everything seemed amazing to the unknowing eye, the change in economy, government, and social life had a lot of bad moments.
In 1920, the United States was celebrating the “Roaring Twenties”. It was a time of great prosperity, but not for all of Europe. We were celebrating relief from World War I and the money we received from it. We were getting back to normalcy. We were almost solely an isolated country, but our foreign policy was going to change within the next ten years.
Since many Americans were affluent in the 1920's, they turned the United States into a consumer society. Although many liked the new advancements, many wanted to stay away from it and search for personal fulfillment. So much happened in the 1920's that made it hard for people to keep

President Warren G. Harding had coined the term ‘a return to normalcy’, which was a nostalgic vision of American society with traditional values and roles, and was widely accepted and eagerly embraced by the population. It was during this time that America experienced “The Roaring Twenties”, an outstanding period of prosperity. There was also a significant shift from an agrarian society to an industrial society, which as a result, caused tremendous tension between traditionalists and modernists.
The 1920’s was a good time period. There were many good things that happened which helped improve living conditions. World War 1 caused poverty and depression so people were looking for jobs and happiness in their lives. The 1920’s were the best of times because there was a rise in industries, more money to spend, and more individual freedom. Social and Economic life in the early twentieth century was improved by the new industries.
People are partying. The word of money fills in the air. People being miserable everywhere. These events were the daily lifestyle of people living in the 1920’s. The 1920’s was a prosperous time for America after World War I because after the war, the economy raised people’s hopes of being in the upper class.
The 1920's was perhaps the most extravagant time period America has ever experienced in its life span of 241 years. Not only was it an age of dramatic political and social changes but the nation’s total wealth doubled during this time which swept many Americans into a so called consumers society. Many people, for the first time in American history lived in the city rather than on farms and finally had extra money to spend which they used mostly on consumer goods and the newest technology, which created an upsurge of mass entertainment. Though despite the twenties being considered the “golden age” of the United States there was also a huge amount of conflict that was brought along with it as well.
During the Roaring Twenties, consumerism began to rise as people became more comfortable with spending and buying what they wanted, even if they didn’t need it. According to U.S. History, “New products made household chores easier and led to more leisure time. Products previously too expensive became affordable. New forms of financing allowed every family to spend beyond their current means” (U.S. History). Many middle class families were taking advantage of this and “replicating” first class lifestyles.
The Roaring Twenties The 1920’s were an era of time that people struggled in. It had ups, and it definitely had downs. This was an age of social change, and it consisted of many ideas and events. Many refer to this decade as the “Roaring Twenties”.
The 1920s were the first years of the new, modern America, with a growing consumer society and new ideas and rules. America saw many changes throughout this decade, including but not limited to social, economic and political changes. Throughout this time, new values were made with the growth of new forms of entertainment and education. After the Progressive Era, the ideas of political figures changed with a new focus on conservative politics and less labor issues. With the new ability for people to buy other products than basic needs, their money went to new inventions, causing new industries to grow.

World War 1,”the Great War”, had recently come to an end and Calvin Coolidge served as president for most of the decade, 1923-1929.
