Manson and his followers carried out several notorious murders in the late 1960’s. The cult was known as the Manson Family. He was roughly in his thirties when the cult was recognized. Born in Ohio, in 1934, he did not have much of a childhood. He lived out most of his childhood moving around. His mother couldn’t take care of him so Charles spent his youth in homes of various relatives. He also spent large amounts of time in special reform schools and boys' homes. By the age nine Manson had already began stealing. Burglary and stealing cars were added to his repertoire. As he grew older his crimes became more frequent. Manson believed that he was the new Messiah and that after a "nuclear attack" he and his followers would have been saved by hiding in a secret world under the desert. His prophetic visions included a belief that a race war would result in a black victory. Manson along with his Family members would have to mentor the black community, as they would lack experience to run the planet. As Manson and the Family were to be the beneficiaries of the race war, he told his followers that they had to help initiate it. Although he killed for his beliefs he also killed to set examples. It happened in the late hours of the night when Watson, Atkins, Kasabian, and Krenwinkel, members of the Manson Family, murdered Sharon Tate, Abigail Folger, Wolciech Frykowski, and Jay Sebring. Neighbors claimed to have heard suspected gunshots and screams but did not alert the authorities. The following morning the brutally murdered bodies were found at 8:00 A.M. by the house keeper, Winfred Chapman. With the order from Manson to kill them as brutally as possible Folger was stabbed 28 times, Frykowski stabbed 51 times, Tate stabbed 16 times, and Jay stabbed seven times and was shot. At the time Tate was pregnant and when arrested Atkins claimed if she had more time she would have cut out Tate’s baby. This was only one of the many murders that represented how brutal the murders
