The amount of courage and determination to sail across the seven seas is unbelieveable. It was a race between spain and portugal to see who could find some land and gold first. The gold was the main motivation for the voyage. Although Christopher Columbus went before any of us he didn’t find any gold which is why we were funded. The voyage was tiring and tedious but the gold, hope, and discovering new people is what kept us going. The captain handed out $1000 to whoever spotted the land first. Our Helmsman spotted it first so he was awarded the gold. The natives we met traded a necklace with a gold nugget hanging from it. Their king was said to have an enormous amount of gold. The captain literally dropped to the ground and kissed the land. The captain’s face was overwhelmed with happiness when he planted the white flag in the sand. On the way back home there was a coral reef in our path swirling and swirling. Lucky we were able to dodge it and you could feel the tension on the boat lighten up and for that minute many thought all hope was lost. The first people we met when we landed on the land were natives. They were friendly and was okay with trading. We received things like hammocks, feathered parrots and even a necklace with a golden nugget. We soon after decided to capture them some natives and use them as guides for gold and gems. The natives we captured we took home with us to raise them in our culture. The whole reason for this voyage or trip was to find gold and discover new lands and people.
