If you did not I can assure you that the American Red Cross was the one to provide you or the person you know with food, water, and other supplies. This amazing organization was created by Clara Barton, who was born in North Oxford, Massachusetts. She dedicated her life to the Red Cross, she was born in 1821 and died after all her contributions in 1912. The American Red Cross has helped many people over the years, it is an invention that changed the world. “Everybody's business is nobody's business, and nobody's business is my business.” Quote by Clara Barton. Clara Barton is saying that even though she doesn’t know any of the people it is her business to help them. Since the Red Cross was invented it has changed the world for the better. The Red Cross has saved many lives and made it easier to live when there is a disaster that affects your life. The original Red Cross members were mostly volunteers and wore white aprons with the Red Cross on the center. Many were nurses before volunteering to help the wounded soldiers by joining the Red Cross. Before the First World War, the Red Cross helped with provide first aid, water safety, and public health nursing programs. Many of the Red Cross nurses helped fight against the influenza epidemic during 1918. Thankfully it expanded into the wonderlous organization it is today.
