Felipe Fernandez-Armesto wrote the book “1492”, which is a great book analyzing the important events that occurred in the year of 1492. He mentioned Columbus’s expedition and the other major events that most people do not realize that took place in the late 15th century. Fernandez-Armesto justified his thesis by explaining how Columbus’s expedition helped Europe gain knowledge on a new world, how China and India had a rich amount of spices and riches, and how Europe gained lots of riches and workers from African nations. Everybody knows about Columbus’s expedition to North America and how he speculated that he found “India” but instead it was North America. Columbus gained lots of knowledge of how the Native people traveled and used wood and other products in a helpful way. China and India had lots of spices, but Europeans had no route to get to those countries, until Niccoló Conti gave them a route through the treacherous Indian Ocean.
