Edgar Allan Poe was an amazing writer, but how do you think he died? Many theories state he died of rabies. Others tell of how he died of alcohol poisoning. And some even think it was a political kidnapping. However, evidence shows Poe died of alcohol poisoning because he was known for binge drinking and other unhealthy habits. Many people Poe died of rabies however this not true. According to Dr. Benitez the flaw of the rabies theory was a lack of bite mark or scratch(Pg. 189). So, if Poe had died from rabies where was the mark? Dr. Benitez admits that even though that the lack of mark or wound is the flaw in his theory Poe still could have been killed by rabies(Pg. 190). If Poe was not scratched or bitten then how could he have rabies? Dr. Benitez said rabies has an incubation period up to a year(Pg.190). Mr. Jerome says Poe was very sensitive to alcohol and if he drank he would become very ill. Poe had a drinking problem, he would go on many drinking binges. This combined with his sensitivity could have killed him. Walker says "Poe was found the day after a heavy storm and evidence shows he was out in it" (P.g184). If Poe had been in the storm he would have most likely gotten sick. Walker stated "Poe was found outside a saloon"(Pg.184) This is an important detail because if he had not been drunk then why was he outside a bar?
