5•12•18Egyptian tradition says that the god of wisdom, Thoth, created writing to make the Egyptians wiser and to strengthen their memory. But how did the gods and goddesses influence art and architecture. The Egyptian gods and goddesses influenced the Egyptian way of life in many ways, one of the major ways being in the form of art on buildings, engraved and painted with pictures and hieroglyphs with various meanings, from helping pharaohs get a good afterlife, to showing devotion to worshipping the gods and goddesses. In Egyptian Mythology, there are many gods and goddesses. Ra is known as the sun god, and a supreme Egyptian deity. Ra, also known as Re, is worshipped as the creator of life. Thoth is the god of wisdom, justice, and writing, as well as the moon god. He is the Messenger of Ra, and the Patron of sciences. Isis is the goddess of fertility. She is the wife of Osiris, and the Mother of Horus. Osiris is the god originally connected with fertility, now the Egyptian Lord of the Underworld, and Judge of the Dead. It was very symbolic, and revolves around the past, its purpose to keep history alive. Ancient Egyptian art refers to the art that had been developed in between 3000 B.C. until the 3rd century. Then ancient civilization without a strong outside influence is represented by how stable the art remained over the 3000 year period. Egyptian art had many different forms, but they all obeyed one law, which remained basically the same for thousands of years. They all obeyed the law of the mode of representing man, nature, and the environment.
