Throughout the film ‘Pirates, Galleons and Treasure’ several notorious pirates were mentioned, that greatly impacted history, more specifically, the 17th century. Pirates covered in the film, included Sir Francis Drake, Sir Henry Morgan, Calico Jack and Black Beard. These pirates were known as not only, the most famous and influential peoples throughout our time, but also largely impacted the century of what we now call “the Golden Age”. First, Sir Francis Drake navigated the globe from 1577-1580, helped defeat the Spanish Armada of 1588 and was the most renowned seaman of the Elizabethan era. Sir Francis Drake was born in England, and became the leader of an expedition that passed through South America. He planned an attack on Panama. In 1572 Drake set sail to capture Nombre de Dios. In 1573, Drake joined Guillaume Le Testu, who was a French buccaneer, in an attack on an overloaded mule train. Drake and his men discovered that they had captured large quantities of silver and gold which they were unable to carry so they ended up burying much of …show more content…

Though his career was a short four years, he is greatly known for overthrowing Charles Vane as captain of the pirate ship, The Treasure. Accompanied by two female pirates, Anne Bonny and Mary Read, this crew was greatly feared and responsible for much of the activity that occurred throughout this time. After they captured ‘The Kingston,’ a small Jamaican vessel, he made it their flagship. However, the Kingston was spotted in Port Royal, where raging merchants sent hunters to go after him. In 1720, Rackham sailed near where an armed sail boat that was sent by Governor Nicholas Lawes attacked Rackham and his crew and captured them. Calico Jack and his crew were sentenced to
