Why did the rock star cross the road? To get a new look of course!! Elvis Presley, Mick Jagger, and Kurt Cobain have all had a role in fashion. Fashions that people wear every day. Musicians dress in certain fashions in order to gain attention and further their careers. Musicians have had a profound influence on fashion.
One musician that had a profound influence on fashion was Elvis Presley. Elvis’ hair, body movements, and clothing were all groomed to get the public’s attention. Elvis had provocative hip movements that garnished him a lot of attention, and started a rebellious phase in amongst many teenagers around the world. Elvis’ fans would copy his on stage moves when they danced. Elvis had a fashion sense in clothing was ahead of his time. When Elvis started out he would use “off the rack” clothing have and have them tailored. Elvis would then put his own mark on the clothes he wore. Kurt ushered in the “Grunge” movement and with it came the “Grunge” fashion trend. Kurt dressed in simple bargain store finds of plaid shirts, faded jeans, and sweaters.
