Even though 39 years have passed since Elvis Presley’s death in 1977, his legacy still shows no signs of fading. From Elvis tribute artists to the 500 still remaining Elvis fan clubs, he most definitely has not been forgotten. He is quite possibly the man responsible for creating America’s pop culture. He is known as the “King of Rock and Roll.” The 20th anniversary of Elvis’ death had roughly 70,000 people take part in Elvis lectures, special movie screenings, memorabilia auctions, music-listening parties, and a nighttime candlelight vigil at his grave. His 75th birthday is celebrated with a new exhibit at Graceland that portrays Elvis' life and features his revolutionary costumes and wardrobe. It also features an Elvis-themed cruise. He had loved music, such as the music that he had heard in church. He received his first big break when he recorded “That’s Alright” in Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. It sold approximately 20,000 copies and reached number four on the Memphis charts. He had his first film debut in 1956 called “Love Me Tender.” Elvis was drafted on March 24, 1958; at this time he was already a superstar. He hoped to concentrate on a serious acting career once he was discharged from the Army. While he was in the Army, his manager Colonel Tom Parker, continued releasing songs that Elvis had previously recorded. As a result, Elvis had ten top 40 hits while he served his country. He was stationed for a while in Germany, and this is where he met his future wife, Priscilla. Although Priscilla was only fourteen years old when they met, for Elvis it was love at first sight.
