Elvis Presley is an important figure in U.S. history because he's “a hip-shaking symbol of liberation for the staid America of the 1950s.” Elvis made a monumental impact because he was so relatable. He came from having little to nothing to being incredibly famous throughout America. Many people in the world had home issues, such as: money problems, or other personal issues and they did not have the hope that things could get better, but Elvis gave that it to them. His life was different and edgy. He gave Americans the change and exoticc way of life they wanted through his dancing and songs. His legacy was being The King of Rock and Roll in the 1950s he sang blues, and rock, he started a musical revolution, and he changed music forever. Elvis is truly an American icon.

“Elvis starred in 31 films during his career and although his presence on the big screen was pretty popular, TV was where his career really took off.” Watching Elvis on TV had become a cultural experience. Gathering around the television was a huge event in a household in the living room to watch him wiggle around the stage. Elvis Presley’s movies and shows allowed millions of people to watch him for the price of owning a television set. This caused many people to have an anti-Elvis attitude because all their children would spend hours watching television, the youth of America fell in love with Elvis Presley. The anti-Elvis reaction was a “major impetus to his popularity. Kids figured if he was despised that much by adults, he must be worth listening to.” Teens throughout America knew that their parents despised Elvis, which fueled their rebelliousness and wanted to listen to him
