Elvis Presley once said, “I never expected to be anybody important.” Elvis was a famous actor and singer who became one of the biggest names of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He filmed and sang many movies and songs that were popular among the two conflicting races. Presley gained popularity especially with the teenage generation. From being nothing to being a huge impact on culture across the world, reaching out to both African American and American lives and changing the music industry forever, Elvis Presley is truly a great american.

During the 1950’s, Presley had a big influence on teenagers and their culture. They began to think of themselves different from their parents generation and teens became more independent (“Dummies.com”). Teens changed everything about themselves to be like Elvis. Their hair, clothes, attitude, and overall appearance(“Dummies.com”). Elvis also had effect on other famous musicians. For example: The Beatles and Johnny Cash. Some people even question whether the Beatles would be famous if it wasn’t Elvis’s influence. John Lennon, of the Beatles, once said, “Before Elvis, there was nothing,” (“Musician Guide”).

Elvis Presley also impacted the black and white races (Williamson).

Elvis will always remain a Great American. He was able to fuse rhythm and blues, gospel, and country music, and created what today is called rock n’ roll. Without Elvis as a role model, it is difficult to imagine what eccentric and flashy singer-songwriters like Elton John might have become. Presley will always be known as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Elvis didn’t just change the history of music, but he also changed American history
