A rose for Emily is a short story written by William Faulkner, who received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1949. He introduces to the reader Emely Grierson, a Southern woman who is the main protagonist of the story; who while alive struggled immensely. Emely as a child had been cut off social society by her father. She was daddy daughter as the story reflects that she was the only child. In addition, the story does not mention her mother, which mean that she only had her father. Everybody in the town respected Miss. Emily because her father was a colonel. Emily Grierson become a disturbed woman. According to William Faulkner on his story ‘’ A Rose for Emely’’ he mentions that Emily, as a young girl her father grew more domineering and isolated her from anyone that can take her away from him. He thought that no one was good enough for her daughter. According to the story, there is a part that says’ ‘we did not say she was crazy back then. We believe she had to do that. We remember all the young men her father had driven away. ‘’ (Faulkner 807) however, this part shows that Mss. Emily was controlled by her father until he died. This limitation is one of the factors that lead Emily to have such disturbing behavior and to be alone. It might sound a normal behavior, but something is worrying about this; it is that she didn’t acknowledge her father dead. She was still living in denial After ten years. For three days it is acceptable since she was grieving nonetheless for ten years in denied it is not acceptable, there must be something else going on with her. At the beginning of the story she displayed signs when her father died, when he died she lost everything and lost the only person she had because her father was the only men in her life. At the opening of the story sounds that she was mentally ill and unhappy. For instance, she didn’t show any signs of grief of her father passing away and then when the town comes to give her condolence she told them that her father was not dead. She lived many years alone, she withdraws herself from everybody from her community to live isolated. She didn’t have any friends, but there is something kind of unusual about this, it is the relationship that she had with the people from the town. On the story reflect that she didn’t want any kind of relationship with anyone. However, the people from the town protected her knowing that she doesn’t care about them and what they thought about her. When her father died some women come to give her condoles although they also wanted just to check how she was living. (807) some people from the town demonstrated that they care for her, must of them sometime have her on their minds. There is not too much to say about her relationship with the people from the town, but it is important to mention this connection because this proof that they care about her and that they hide her crime because they felt for her. However, they didn’t really know that she was mentally ill until the very end of the story when they find out that not only did she keep Homer's dead corpse in a bed for 40 years, but that she would sleep next to it as
