The literary influence of F. Scott Fitzgerald is a noteworthy one. Although local to Saint Paul, Minnesota, his short stories and novels were more far-reaching than he ever imagined. Although many regarded him as unsuccessful in reaching his full potential prior to his death, it is notable that even decades later his work is still acknowledged as some of the best in American Literature with remnants of his unique style still being imitated to this day. His battle with alcoholism and marital issues in his personal life were reflected in his writing and gave a voice to the real struggles of his time.
