In 1919, Congress passed the 18th Amendment which banned the sale and consumption of alcohol in America (Doc B). Prohibitionists overlooked the tenacious American tradition of strong drink and of weak control by the central government. Thus, there was tension between the modernists and the traditionalists. Although the amendment was passed, alcohol was still distributed illegally. Actually, prohibition spawned many crimes, such as illegal sale of alcohol and gang wars.
The 16th amendment instituted Congress's right to inflict a Federal income tax. During the Civil War, to help pay war expenses, Congress passed the Revenue Act of 1861, the first U.S. Federal income tax. This act included a tax on personal incomes. After ten years, the act was repealed, leading Congress to eventually enact a Flat Rate Federal Income Tax in 1894. This new tax stated that anyone who made more than $800 would be charged with a 3% tax and then finally a 3-5% on income that exceeds $600.
By 1932, Americans had reversed the approval and disapproval making the disapproval rating had gone higher. Americans disapproved the prohibition because the criminality and murder went up, business’ were going down and it was impossible to enforce no alcohol. The rate of criminals went up leading to more murders when the Prohibition was enforced. Many criminals such as gangsters, racketeers, bootleggers, and dope sellers got “helped” out by prohibition. Especially in the Great Depression, were alcohol was even more wanted.
Women have always wanted equal rights and fought to gain equality. On August 1920 the 19th amendment was ratified into the Constitution. The 19th amendment stated that no one will be denied the right to vote based on your sex. This changed everything for the women in the US. Women everywhere started to work more and started to rely less on men.
I propose amendment to repeal the 22nd amendment of a two term limit on presidency. I believe that this amendment should be repealed because many presidents have proven that they are worthy of having more than two terms of presidency. For example, Franklin D. Rosevelt won 4 connective presidential elections and was the only president to be elected by the people for more than 2 terms. Franklin D. Rosevelt was doing so much good for the people of the United States, that they didn’t want his presidency to end at just 2 terms. He proved that he was preforming all of the duties that are essential to the president of the United States.
One of the few things that needs recognition is the Declaration of Independence and our 14th Amendment. After earning our independence, slavery and segregation occurred. For almost a century, whites treated African Americans unfairly until the 13th Amendment passed, the amendment to abolish slavery. Our whole country was in chaos for many years due to unfairness and racism. We all wouldn’t be have our rights today if it wasn’t for the 14th Amendment.
They Did It ! Recently a decision was made that will change America forever. On August 18th Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th amendment, therefore granting women the right to vote in all states. This decision with certainly be met with both support and opposition from many.

Prohibition was passed because drinking was to be blamed for America’s most serious problems, such as child abuse, crime, and corruption. Also it was believed that passing prohibition would improve health and hygiene. The 18th Amendment was repealed on December 5, 1933 by the 21st Amendment.
Why did America change its mind on prohibition? Well it all started on January 16th 1919 in Nebraska when you weren’t allowed to sale alcohol. The state and government are the ones would have the power to pass the laws that requires Americans to obey the Amendment. Place yourself in 1920 if you had the choice to pass the law of prohibition would you? If it was me I wouldn’t because it would save a lot of trouble and arguments.

I feel the 26th amendment should be change because people of teenage years seem to know just as much about politics as much as older people.
