Romeo and Juliet is a play about star-crossed lovers. Romeo is apart of a high class Montague family; their rival is the Capulet family. Romeo falls in love with the daughter of Lord Capulet. They want to get married but they know that this will not be approved between their family feud. This is why they secretly ask Friar Laurence to marry them in secret.
Friar Laurence decided to marry Romeo and Juliet without planning for all possibilities. Friar never planned for all possibilities in both occasions, which had caused all the problems and the death of Romeo and Juliet. When Friar Laurence set up the plan with Juliet he tells her, "Hold; get you gone, be strong and prosperous in this resolve: I'll send a friar with speed To Mantua, with my letters to thy lord. IV i, 37-40" Friar gives Juliet confidence to Juliet before she decides to drink the potion. Friar Laurence did lots for Romeo and Juliet but also caused them harm.

Friar Laurence, making poor decisions, is largely responsible for the two star crossed lovers written by William Shakespeare in “Romeo and Juliet”. With great support of their secret love, he didn’t make rational decisions that could have improved the secrecy of their relationship. He hoped his decisions could make the greater good. By believing he could solve years-long of two royal families fighting just by marrying Romeo and Juliet is not logical. His intentions were good and no one may have had the same plan as him, but there were missteps, he overlooked.
How far would one go to help those you love? I believe that there is a limit that one should go when helping someone. I believe in helping others but in Romeo and Juliet they took it too far. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, nurse should be pardoned and Friar Lawrence and Rosaline should be punished.
When Romeo and Juliet met they fell in love instantly, even though they knew it could never work out because of their families rivalry. The Friar knew all of this, but still decided to marry them. “You shall not stay alone Till Holy Church incorporate two in one” (Shakespeare, 420). He had good intentions because he hoped this would bring the families, but in the end it made things even worse.

He said “these violent delights have violent ends,” thus warning them himself that even though their marriage is suppose to be a joyous occasion, it will not end well (II.vi.9). Automatically, the friar should have been wanting to keep Romeo and Juliet away from each other knowing their families’ history, yet he decided to marry them knowing that it would not end well. Friar Laurence also comes up with a ridiculous plan to reunite Juliet with Romeo after Romeo is banished from the city of Verona
In Romeo and Juliet, the two households were the Capulets and the Montagues. These two families were well known for their quarrels and public riots as seen when the Prince exclaims, “Three civil brawls, bred of an airy word, By thee, old Capulet, and Montague” (1.5.80-81). Remarkably, Romeo and Juliet were able to see past these differences and fall in love; however in order to be secretive, they required the assistance of a dependable parental figure. Friar Laurence, who was neither Capulet or Montague, fit this role. Wanting to end the feud, the Friar frequently helped the couple stay together as seen when he married them and later on set out a plan for their eternal love away from Verona.

Particularly, in Act two, scene two, Romeo’s reckless behavior helps the reader realize the fact that his preference of death over separation from Juliet is caused by him being head over heels in love with Juliet. In the story, when Romeo is hiding in Capulet’s orchard, he disregards the fact that he and Juliet’s families are enemies.
After Romeo and Juliet meet they soon find out they are of opposting house but this doesn’t stop them from continuing forward because of their love and determination they have for each other. When he was walking through the capulet orchard and saw Juliet sitting at the window talking about wanting to see him again then Romeo says( I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and i'll be new baptized; henceforth i never will be Romeo. 2, 74,49-51) through this speech it shows how that even though they are of opposting houses Romeo is willing to cast away his name to be with Juliet showing that their love is their motivation in their lives and helps them to move past the adversity. This is further shown how they will not let the challenge of their families being in a feud by officially getting their love recognized by getting married by Friar Laurence.(come,come with me, and we will make short work; for,by your leaves, you shall not stay alone till holy church incorporate two in one.
