Gandhi’s Impact in the World
In the past, things happened that a man was not alright with. He held a non violent protest to try and stop some pretty bad things from happening. This man’s name is Mahatma Gandhi, and he made a statement to his country and to the world with his nonviolent act of protest.
The British were putting laws on salt, and Gandhi didn’t think that was fair. He wanted to gain India’s independence back from the British and get rid of the salt laws. “On March 12, Gandhi set out from Sabarmati to the coastal town of Dandi on the Arabian Sea” (history.com). When they had gotten there, Gandhi and his followers defied the British laws and began to make their salt.
On the way, Gandhi had addressed large crowds about his statement and each day he gained more and more followers in his journey. When they arrived at the sea, Gandhi had been the leader of thousands of people. He had speeches prepared to tell people and end segregation. Gandhi also led many prayers and then awoken early the next morning and went to the sea and defied the British. This is what began Gandhi’s many non violent protests. …show more content…

Nonviolence obviously does not use any type of physical harm to reach any type of goal. Peaceful protests will not use physical violence to get people to hear them. “Gandhi’s act defied a law of the British Raj mandating that Indians buy salt from the government and prohibiting them from collecting their own” (Engler). This is what Gandhi did. He set off a mass campaign of non-compliance that swept the country, by breaking the salt
