There have been many people who have contributed a significant amount of time and energy to create their own style of art and photograph. Photographers from various aspects of life and careers have invented ways to revolutionize the way we think and the way we use photography. Photography has become a prominent component in our society and its invention has been dated back for many decades. Photography has been used to portray someone’s ideals, beliefs, or theories that became a pathway for other photographers to follow them and use their methods. There have been two photographers that I believe contributed to the popularity and importance of photography: Louis Daguerre and Alexander Gardner. They used photography very differently but each had their own success in their own way. Alexander Gardner was known for his explicit pictures on the civil war battlegrounds and the aftermath of the battlefield. He liked to look for scenes with a lot of destruction and death to try and add realism or shock to his photographs. Daguerre was a known painter who had little education, but his personality is what I believe helped him succeed in his field. The Daguerreotype is a photogenic process where he was able to stop the light sensitive material from reacting by using a solution of table salt and hot water. This made the photographs last longer under light which had not been done yet. Once he created this method, he tried to persuade scientists and artists to promote his new photogenic process. Daguerre started to create optical illusions at the Diorama which made many people suspicious of his methods of work.
