Genghis Khan was a ruthless warlord that united and held together the Mongol Empire by force. Genghis Khan greatly affected the world while he was alive, from conquering most of the world, to killing innocents, he accomplished many great acts and executed numerous despicable acts.

When Genghis Khan became an adult he began his wars by raiding the Tatars and, in 1203 he defeated the Keraits. Both the Tatars and Keraits are Mongol nomadic tribes. Around 1206 he became the head of the Mongols and he implemented the Yassa. During 1208 and 1215 Genghis Khan started raiding China in addition to that he became the first outsider to rule all of China. By 1222 Genghis Khan had taken Turkestan, engulfed part of India and started heading into Russia. When he was getting too old to continue his conquests he returned to his capital and passed the empire along to his four sons; Tolui, Ögodei, Chagatai, Jöchi. In 1206 he was nominated to be the King of the Mongols. Genghis Khan means “Greatest of rulers, emperor of all men.” Also, around the time Genghis Khan was elected he implemented the Yassa. The Yassa is a formation of laws that work with the principal of “an eye for an eye.” Some of the Yassa’s laws included; no kidnapping women, no raising arms towards another, and slavery of fellow Mongols was forbidden. Also while many others at the time did not like the idea of having more than one religion in their land Genghis Khan embraced it. He even wen so far as to make laws protecting the people practicing other religions.
