Geographic Location and Ancient Civilization Advanced technologies, large populations, and a well organized work force are three very important aspects that make civilizations great. Planet Earth has gone through many different climatic changes over the past thousands of years, and each time civilizations have adapted and thrived. So, the main question is, how did geographic location help shape ancient civilization? Around 13,000 years ago Middle Easterners were thriving in their environments. The climate was becoming warmer and wetter from the last ice age, which led to plentiful amounts of forests, trees, and plants. They brought horse-drawn chariots and new technologies that were useful in warfare; religious practices and languages; and new pressures to feed, house, and clothe an ever-growing population (Tignor pg. 86) Not only did the nomads bring new technologies, but also peace and trade through other cities, and eventually came the brutal competitive wars. Migrants were competing with one another over farming communities and resources, which lead them to the innovation of iron which positively assisted the chariots and weapons. Horse chariots were not only used to transport people and merchandise in short amounts of time, but they were also used in battle amongst different civilizations. Each chariot carried a driver and an archer and charged into battle with lethal precision and ravaging speed. In fact, the mobility, accuracy, and shooting power of warriors in horse-drawn chariots titled the political balance (Tignor pg. 90). While battles continued over power and land, each area soon adapted to the idea of chariots, and their appreciation for this important war weapon grew
