Enlightenment ideas were important to make the people write the Declaration of Independence which started the American Revolution. There were actions of many people that started the American revolution such as the actions of King George the third impacted all of these greatly. King George the third was the one who made the actions become so great that they had to write a document to get the rest of the colonists in on revolting or breaking away from the kingdom. This document was called the Declaration of Independence that finally declared America’s independence from England. The colonists did many different things that made the American Revolution happen, including come up with the ideas of the Enlightenment.
The Enlightenment served as an empowering movement and emancipated the colonists to embrace their beliefs in equality. John Locke set a standard on the basis of people having “personal” rights (privacy), which lead to a social contract that declared that as the government protected the people's natural rights, the people would allow the government to rule. Along with that declaration, Locke also said that if the government failed to abide, the people are allowed to revolt. All in all, because the colonists believed the British government had ignored their natural rights, the assumption was that the British had violated their promise in the contract which resulted in the American Revolution. People became more understanding of one another’s culture. More books of a secular nature were printed and scientists working on the same problem in different parts of Europe especially benefited, since they could print the results of their work and share it accurately with a large number of other scientists. By the 1600 's, this process would lead to the Scientific Revolution of the Enlightenment, which would radically alter how Europeans viewed the world and universe. While the printing press was a highly positive invention, it created so negativity. It took book copying out of the hands of the Church and made it much harder for the Church to control or censor what was being written.

At first under the National Assembly they were successful in utilizing enlightenment ideas and giving people the rights they longed for which were based of the enlightenment. After, the National Assembly was taken over by the Radical Revolution they took away the rights and ideas the people of France had hoped for and failed at incorporating enlightenment ideas. Lastly, after the collapse of the Radicals, Napoleon came to power and was able to achieve little success in implementing enlightenment

Many factors caused the American Revolution, unfair British rule, lack of freedom and independence, and various economical issues. Three important events such as the Enlightenment, Great Awakening, and country ideology influenced the colonists in the years leading up to the Revolution. Considering that Great Britain was the world’s most powerful nation at the time, the colonists wanted to be completely independent from British rule. Great Britain would never release grasp of the American world unless the Colonies fought for their freedom.
Jean-Jacques Rousseau was a great philosopher, writer, and composer during the 18th century. Rousseau’s civic philosophy influenced the Enlightenment and changed the general way of thinking. Rousseau’s first major piece of work when the academy he attended, the Academy of Dijon, conducted an essay contest and Rousseau was chosen as the winner with his essay called: A Discourse on the Sciences and Arts. Rousseau argued that Science and the Arts have corrupted the morals and virtue of people. Rousseau’s essay instantly won fame and recognition and it laid the building blocks for his next piece of work, The Discourse on the Origin of Inequality.

The role of the enlightenment in the French Revolution was to provide another way of thinking that questioned everything including the legitimacy of the monarchy. The role of the enlightenment in the American Revolution was to give America’s founding fathers a background knowledge for writing rules for a nation and to question Britain's rule. The Enlightenment gave the American Revolution a backbone for the nation and here is why “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights” This is from the Declaration Of Independence and it is based off an enlightenment idea from John Locke which claims that people have certain rights that cannot be taken away.
Enlightenment Participation in the French Revolution According to Edmund Broke, the people who were responsible for the French revolution are the French Enlightenment philosophers. This argument was elaborated and taken up by various historians such as Lord Acton and Tocqueville. There were some ideas that were suggested by the philosophers. These ideas included the collapse of some old the régime that that had consequences of various factors such as social unrest, economic problems, and some conflicting ambitions of various conflicting individuals and groups. However, in the revolution that was unfolding was affected by various factors such as what was said and thought, as well as what was being advocated.

It was a continuation of the scientific revolution and was all about reason and individualism. The Enlightenment led to the shaping of society in aspects of governmental structures, moral codes, and economics. If it had not been for the Enlightenment, society would not be the way it is today.
Enlightment Philosopher and the French Revolution Many revolutions have occurred over the years. One of them was the French Revolution. Imagine if an Enlightment philosopher would have been alive during this time. What would they have thought about this revolt against the government?
The Enlightenment was a period of time that stressed the importance of reason and individual ideas. Many philosophers published works criticizing a country’s monarch or divulging the flaws they saw in a system within the government, such as the justice system. The Enlightenment also stressed the importance of education, and as a result of this, literacy rates experienced a major upward trend. Now able to read the philosopher’s works, a larger sum of people now were educated on the corruptions within their government. This caused a questioning of traditional practices, and people began to believe they could revise their government.
The United States and France’s revolutions were caused by the Enlightenment’s idea of freedom and equality. Both countries had similar types of government, which was an absolute monarch and the people felt the need to be released from this oppression. The lower classes were being taxed the most and this really was a problem for them since they could barely afford their food. Before the Enlightenment period began, most people could not think for themselves, instead they would believe what the majority of people were talking about. Then, the enlightened thinkers came along and started to think for themselves and to question religious beliefs and they inspired other people to think for themselves as well.
The most important philosopher of the Enlightenment is Francois Marie Arouet, who was known by the name of Voltaire. Voltaire lived from 1694 to 1778. He was in many ways a representative philosopher during his century. He wrote over 70 volumes of books and over 21,000 letters based on his thoughts and beliefs. He was known to attack beliefs that he didn’t quite agree with.
Education allowed people of the time to explore a broader range of topics. People were able to read and reading became more accessible with the use of newspapers. The abundance of articles discussing Enlightenment ideas led to many “normal” people of the time being able to discover Enlightenment ideas. New publications and newspapers became cheaper allowing more people to be able to read.
