Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Apollo, and Hermes are five Greek gods that influenced the Roman religion and found a place among the Roman Gods (Pallardy, n.d.).
Zeus: Historically, Zeus was regarded as a god of thunder, lightning, rain, and winds, and was associated with thunderbolts as his weapon of choice (Pallardy, n.d.).
Poseidon: His most famous function was that he was the Greek god of the sea, but he was also the god of horses and earthquakes, as well (Pallardy, n.d.).
Hades: His name has become synonymous with that of death and the underworld, which is why he is the god of the dead and the king of the underworld (Pallardy, n.d.).
Apollo: There was no one more powerful than Apollo at that time. His responsibilities were varied - but he was associated with music, poetry, art, prophecy,

As the Roman Empire expanded, it adopted many of the Greek gods and goddesses and incorporated them into their own religion (The Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Rome, n.d.). This is why Zeus was known as Jupiter, Poseidon was known as Neptune, Hades was known as Pluto, Apollo was known as Apollo, and Hermes was known as Mercury in the Roman religion (The Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Rome, n.d.).
For example, the Roman gods were known to be more focused on warfare and politics, and their gods were more warlike and hierarchical than the Greek gods (Ancient Rome | History, Government, Religion, Maps, & Facts, 2023c). The Romans also had their own set of rituals and traditions, which were more elaborate and complex than the Greek ones (Ancient Rome | History, Government, Religion, Maps, & Facts, 2023c).
