How Did Henry David Thoreau's View On Nature

As of today we use a large amount of technology everyday. What if he cut the amount in half or in fourths? What would that mean for us to function and get the work done everyday? It would mean change from one to spread to many. Through Call of the Wild and Walden, I was able to compare the characters to one specific character, Henry David Thoreau and how he look at nature. Henry David Thoreau’s view on nature was similar with still little differences to Buck’s three masters Francois, Mercedes, and Thornton. My first reason on why Henry David Thoreau’s view on nature was similar to Francois was because Thoreau wanted to adapt himself to nature but Francois wanted nature to change to him. Thoreau wanted to absorb what God had to present for him, as he said, “I want live deep and suck all of the marrow out life.” (Thoreau 59.) He did not need a lot of technology to live, all he needed was what God made for him. Nature, fish and berries, wood for shelter, and mud. Basic necessities to live, and little human interaction happening only when he went into town about a mile away. “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die discover that I have not lived.” (Thoreau 59) He believed that if you have everything …show more content…

Thoreau wanted to ultimately live a very passive and simple life with only him, God, and nature. He really liked one word that he used while doing mostly when thinking, simplify. “Simply, Simply. Instead of three meals a day, if it be necessary eat but one; instead of a hundred dishes, five; and reduce other things in proportion.” (Thoreau 60) This shows that you do not need a large abundance of anything in life. As he said that he does not need 3 meals a day, and he does not need many dishes to cook and eat. The simpler he made life the more he would seem to enjoy living
