“The search will continue. Not until the empirical resources are exhausted, need we pass on to the dreamy realms of speculation.”
-Edwin Hubble

Edwin Hubble was an American astronomer. Hubble played a crucial role in establishing the fields of astronomy and cosmology. Hubble proved that many objects thought to be nebulas were galaxies beyond the Milky Way. Edwin Hubble did not only just say we have other galaxies, but our universe was expanding. Edwin Hubble helped revolutionize astronomy and how we classify galaxies, and it is called the Hubble Classification Scheme.
Astronomers believed there was only one galaxy in the universe, not knowing they classified them as nebulas. That they thought inside the Milky Way …show more content…

They both worked together on studying galaxies and their distances. Humason measured the spectral shifts of the galaxies and Hubble was tasked with determining their distances. Hubble concluded that if one galaxy is twice as far away from another galaxy, the galaxy’s redshift is twice as large. Hubble then discovers that the universe is not static. The relation between redshift helped Hubble come up with the theory that the universe is expanding. He came to the conclusion that the universe is expanding by observing the redshift of light from distant galaxies.
Many people came together to put this theory together that the universe is expanding, Albert Einstein and his development of general relativity and Willem de Sitter who developed theoretical models of the universe. Hubble helped these observations with mathematical form to put the evidence that the universe is expanding. People were unsure with the universe is expanding theory, they thought it was far off. “If what the great telescope apparently sees is right, Dr. Hubble said, the nebulae may be endlessly distributed, on and on, virtually to …show more content…

Edwin Hubble’s classification Scheme helped lay the foundation for understanding galactic evolution and the formation of the universe. The classification has proven to be a useful tool in understanding the diversity and evolution of galaxies. Hubble provided a standard way of categorizing galaxies, making it easier for astronomer to compare their observation. The Hubble classification scheme was a major contribution to our understanding of the universe. It helps people classify their observation of the universe and study the galaxies easier. The Hubble classification helps with future research due to the fact that classification of the galaxies is much easier to
