Igor Sikorsky During the interwar years, there was a big change in society. Scientists and engineers developed new ideas and methods. They wanted to improve technology and make inventions so that they could do what they could not before, making life easier. These inventions from the 1920s and the 1930s changed the world. Igor Sikorsky is one of the inventors from the interwar years that changed the world. Igor Sikorsky first saw the helicopter in a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci. He also read about it in a Jules Verne sci-fi novel. Helicopters were the flying object that saved people from danger such as a sinking ship. This inspired him, and he wanted to build a helicopter. When the company that he was working for had to shut down because of the depression, he got a budget do build a helicopter convincing other people that it will be a unique vehicle that will save human lives (Inventions that Shook the World). …show more content…
From the time he was a child, he was inspired by the vehicle that can hover. In 1910, Sikorsky tried to create machines that can hover but they were not able to fly with a man on it. Because he found the helicopter more challenging to build than the fixed wing aircraft, he decided to work on the fixed wing aircraft first putting hold on building the helicopters ("Igor Sikorsky." Sikorsky Archives.). In 1913, he build the first four-engine plane, which he called “the flying boat” and made an airline (“Igor Sikorsky”.Bio.com). Because of all his success, he decided to go back to the dream of inventing a helicopter (Inventions that Shook the
