World War I started on July 28, 1914 in Europe. It began with the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. Although the assassination did prompt World War I, it still would have materialized. Other factors such as, nationalism, imperialism, and the systems of alliances, were already provoking of the war; the assassination just stopped the prolonging of the war. World War I caused great damage to the world; some constructive and others destructive. Imperialism is when a ac country try to extend its power, diplomacy, or military force (“What is Imperialism”). Starting in 1870, imperialism was a major factor of World War I, because each individual European country wanted to surpass the other. Sadly, country such as France, Germany, and Great Britain, were taking over minor countries to gain more land and more men for battle. Each dominant country wanted to display their magnitude over all the other countries by having additional soldiers and territory, which causes tremendous strife between European countries. Nationalism is when a country shows superiority over all other countries (“Nationalism”). The Industrial Revolution played an enormous role in the dawning of nationalism. Throughout and before the 1914s Germany was booming with new inventions of the industrial Revolution, which threated other ruling powers (Great Britain, France, and Russia) (“World War I; Causes and Effects”).
