The study of criminals and crime has been studied for over two-hundred years, developing from new studies and new patients who have significantly contributed to the study of criminology. The study of psychology is an incredibly engaging subject. The idea that you can study peoples' brains and figure out what went wrong, where and why they do things average people do not seem to do is a captivating subject. So, with the new ideas of criminology, it was a captivating subject. My interest was highly piqued when I learned that there was a difference in psychology between men and women when it comes to serial killers. But sometimes it seems like if we recognized certain tactics earlier, we could have pointed out more culprits rather than having the case run cold. A case I would like to talk about is Jack the Ripper. An infamous case in England that swamped the land with hysteria. Jack is believed to have killed five to eleven women in the late 1800s. But with recent DNA tests and theories, it’s believed that Jack the Ripper could have been a woman. This would give valid reasoning as to how the victims were killed and why she wasn’t suspected by anyone. The rippers' victims were almost all prostitutes, and they were all brutally mutilated. They had their throats slashed and multiple stab wounds, with brutal murder scenes and dumps sights. But the interesting factor which plagued the police was the fact that almost all victims had their genitals brutally mangled in some way and some victims even had their uteruses removed. This caused police to believe the murderer was a doctor, but she could have also been a midwife. That would explain the lack of sexual violence in the victims, as instead of a sexual gain it was an anger towards prostitutes that a midwife could have felt. A witness was interview during one of the murders, she stated they saw the victim running hours after she deemed dead, so that could have been the killer dressed in the victims' clothes.
