Jackie Robinson's Impact on Lives

Jackie Robinson was not just a prolific athlete but also changed the world around us. He shows us that anyone can do anything by becoming the first ever Professional African American baseball player in the minor leagues. He had a hard life in his childhood and persevered. He showed American Americans could do anything.

Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. He had a ruff childhood starting with his Dad leaving him when he was an infant. He was the youngest of 5. His parents were sharecroppers in Cairo. One year later he moved to Pasadena, California with his family and his mom's brother. In his time at Pasadena, he joined a street gang called the Peppers. His whole life he got called names and bullied. His motivation was winning and sports played a big role in his life. He was very talented and wanted to show that African Americans can do anything they set their mind to. He got into a lot of trouble as a kid and often got punished. In high school, Jackie participated in basketball, football, baseball, and track. I really see his significance in the sport of baseball. He left an impact by showing that African Americans can do great things in the world. He persevered through all the hate from other white MLB players and teammates. It surprised me the most that he was a rookie at 28. Studying Jackie Robinson has shown me that you must preserve through your obstacles and challenges to get to where you want to be. My thinking has changed by thinking that it is an honor to play all sports knowing the history and challenges that were put in front of other people.
