Did you know that the 60’s was an influential time for music to bring generations together and brought political views to attention? Several artist had impacted the 60’s with the type of music they made, but only a few stand out in certain aspects. For guitar, Jimi Hendrix was one of the most astonishing guitarists to ever play in the 60’s and some would argue all time. Jimi Hendrix was one of the most talented guitarist of all time that used the sound of his music to innovated the music industry. To start Hendrix’s course to the top of England’s music charts, he had to meet Chas Chandler. Chandler was impressed with the way Jimi performed and he signed him to an agreement to move to England. A few other parts of the agreement was to create a new band and change Jimmy’s name to Jimi. The band was named The Jimi Hendrix Experience and it consisted of a drummer named Mitch Mitchell and a bassist named Noel Redding. The Jimi Hendrix experience became a sensation in the fall of 1966. The band's first sign of popularity was its first single which was “Hey Joe.” The song spent 10 weeks in the charts in the UK and created fame for the band all over the country. A full album was released by the Jimi Hendrix Experience and was named Are You Experienced. This album has been known to be one of the most popular rock albums of all time. This album includes songs such as “Purple Haze,” “The Wind Cries Mary,” “Fire,” and “Foxey Lady.”(A) Many other bands from England also looked up to his music that Jimi and his band were producing because they have never heard a guitar like the way Jimi played it. The band first played at the Monterey International Pop Festival and performed “Wild Thing.” Overnight, the band grew to fame and had fans all over the country. Hendrix kept the Are You Experienced and Axis ( was another album of the band ) to go on tour. After a while of touring, Hendrix took his music to a new level by spending more time working in the studios. Jimi had owned his own recording studio in New York City that was called Electric Lady Studio and this allowed Hendrix to have a demand for his music to be released. Bold as Love was his second album and Electric Ladyland was the last album that the Jimi Hendrix Experience wrote. Because of so much demand work in the studio and being tour, the band separated in 1969. This event in his musical career actually helped him grow as a songwriter and made him express more emotion in his music. In the summer of 1969, Jimi Hendrix was the last to perform at Woodstock. Hendrix got the attention of the crowd and made everyone freeze while he played “Star Spangled Banner” on the guitar. In august of 1969, Jimi had joined a new band named the Gypsy Sun & Rainbows the band consisted of Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Juma Sultan, and Jerry Velez(A).
