ATLANTA, LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK — April 3, 2016 — Coltrane Influenced Saxophonist performs a Tribute to John Coltrane and Joe Henderson at Atlanta’s Historical 1st Congregational Church in recognition of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) - International Jazz Day.

November 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight and celebrate jazz and it’s diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe.

Azar wrote and performed on Stanley Turpentine’s album Home. He also wrote and performed for Earth Wind Fire, on their highly acclaimed release Powerlight. He collaborated with Earth Wind & Fire’s leader Maurice White. His credits are numerous from from his performance and recording with Miles Davis Dark Magus (1974) live at Carnegie Hall in New York; and his performance on the highly acclaimed Grammy award winning album; Marvin Gaye’s, Hear My Dear.
Azar’s 2014 CD recorded live at New York’s Jazz Standard; The Seeker, (Sunnyside Records) was considered for a Grammy nomination. His upcoming release ‘Elementals

The Honorable Ambassador Andrew Young is also a member of the congregation. 1st Congregational is an uplifting place to pay tribute to two of America’s (John Coltrane and Joe Henderson) most prolific contributors to it’s indigenous Art form Jazz. And Azar Lawrence is and is often described as a Spiritual Jazz Musician so he will certainly be performing on “sacred” holy ground. It s humbling and an honor.
