Buildings burning, citizens yelling and people demanding, rioters stormed the winter palace in order to bring change. While World War I filled the atmosphere of the world, Russia handled a war of their own. Bolshevik leaders overthrew the Czar monarchy for the hope of a better life. The Russian Revolution, led by Vladimir Lenin, relates to McCarthyism and the Salem witch trials in the sense that all three ideologies destroyed a false threat. Lenin’s tyrannical reign resulted in the corruption of the government, neglection of people’s welfare and began communism in Russia. Government corruption spread like wildfire near the end of the Czar’s reign and the beginning of Lenin’s tyranny. Feudalism and serfdom, a lifestyle in which nobility forced peasants to serve them, infuriated citizens in lowers classes …show more content…

Many Russian citizens tried to immigrate to America for freedom. However, America closed its borders because they feared communists in the country (History.com). This became known as the Red Scare. At this point in time, Joseph Stalin came into leadership in Soviet Russia. Stalin monitored all communication and executed anyone opposed to his method of government (Encyclopedia.com). Even though the revolutions and Bolshevik leaders, Lenin and Stalin, boosted the Russian economy greatly, it all resulted in “the erection of an inflexible authoritarian system of rule” (Encyclopedia.com). The execution of people during Stalin’s tyrannical reign correlates to Mary in “The Crucible” because at first, they oppose Stalin but when they risk their lives for their ethics, they eventually submit (Miller). It also correlates to McCarthyism because it put fear in people. Ironically, results of the revolutions, including the Red Scare, led up to reasons for McCarthyism. Without a communist power in the world, no threats enter into Americans’ minds as the Russian Revolution placed
