Junot Diaz is a Hispanic-American writer that struggled his life as an immigrant in his early years here in America. He began to write as a way to get away from his problem, but his writing brought unexpected fame to his life. His work may be criticized, but it has brought huge impacts into the lives of others who went through his same struggles. Diaz was born in the Dominican Republic, and lived there for a few years until his father had the opportunity to bring his family to the United States. When he arrived here to the United States, he lived the beginning of his years in Parlin, New Jersey. Diaz’s short stories and novels has had huge impact in American Society, and the reason why is because he connects his writings to his personal life experiences. Junot Diaz was born in the Dominican Republic, in a lifestyle that many of us Americans may not believe or ever experience. On a biography that was written for Junot Diaz by Newsmakers, it stated that Diaz lived in a house with no water or electricity. For us Americans, we don’t get to see this very often but for a person living in the Dominican Republic it is like seeing a car on the street. As mentioned in the other paragraph, Diaz lived in the beginning of his years in Parlin, NJ. Diaz had a lot of struggles in his life trying to learn english and trying to fit in. Diaz began to read a lot and start to write, most of his reading done was to get better in english, and most of his writing was done to reflect his problems on a piece of paper (Newsmakers). As Diaz was growing up, he saw how his mother began to raised and take care of 5 kids, and started to work multiple jobs. Main reason why his mother began to do this was because his father decided to lay off and abandoned his family (Authors and Artists). As he was going through all this, it was when Diaz started to read and write due to how lonely he felt. But everyone's childhood has unforgettable moments. Diaz got raised in a crazy family according to his writings, and but not everyone is going to have a good life, there are rough patches down the road for everyone (Johnson). Diaz got to experience to have a brother who is diagnosed with cancer. Diaz brother got diagnosed with Leukemia, but through many treatments he got to recover (Authors and Artist). This is a point of view that not everyone may experience due to the fact that a close relative, like a brother, is diagnosed with cancer.
