The Vietnam War was devastating, and caused a lot of pain and opposition. It was a very negative war. A lot of people does not agree with this war at all. People must consider the issues with drafting, the Geneva Accords, and Kennedy’s speech during the time.

Let’s start with the drafting issue. Thousands are men are getting drafted and taken away from their wives and families. This also leaves the mother to do everything. Families suddenly without fathers, and this makes more people disagree with this war. The draft is seen as as unfair, mostly because the average age of a US soldier was 19 years old.

President Kennedy sent advisors to train Vietnamese to fight in the Vietnam War. The United States planned to retreat some of their troops, so Kennedy decided it was fair to train Vietnamese soldiers what they know. Since Vietnam was divided, they needed the training.

The Vietnam War was the first war ever to be broadcasted on live television. It was a scary, dangerous war. The broadcasting made even more people disagree with this war. The citizens don’t want anything to do with it, not to mention the US ended up dropping thousands of bombs. That action was called Operation Rolling Thunder, and even though that sounds fictional, that was real. The worst part is that the Vietnam soldiers were given mixed looks after their service, when they deserved to be respected.

In conclusion, the Vietnam war was a bad thing. It didn’t do much good at all and many lives were lost due to this war. The US drafted many young men and put them in a gruesome war. What was supposed to end conflict and end the war ended up splitting a country. Vietnam even ended up being divided in half! North and South Vietnam, Communists vs. anti-communists.
