Art is one of the major things Leonardo da Vinci was recognized for. He painted many famous paintings including Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. His legacy left him influencing artists from his time to artists in the future. But how did his interest in art start from? Well, it all started when Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in the small town of Vinci. All throughout his childhood da Vinci was surrounded by art. During his teenage years, Leonardo Leonardo to a Painter's Guild to where he became an apprentice to a sculptor named Andrea del Verrocchio, a painter, a sculptor, and a master crafter. After his apprenticeship was complete, Leonardo started to get a lot of civic commissions from the people. Leonardo da Vinci was known to be proficient in architecture. He usually was ordered by his patrons to plan and create a monument or a building, but for some reason, it mostly wasn't followed through. For example, in around 1487-1488, Leonardo wrote a letter to Ludovico Sforza, the ruler of Milan at the time and who was also da Vinci's first patron. In the letter, Leonardo mentioned about how he was experienced in architecture and about how he was even asked for some tips during a construction. Also in the letter, Leonardo wrote about how he participated in a competition to design of the dome of the Milan Cathedral. Unfortunately, da Vinci withdrew from the competition before the winner was chosen by the judges. Leonardo's plans and ideas/style about architect influenced Ludovico Sforza planning of Vigevano, a town built on the location of a hunting villa of the Sforzas. The town is now a very popular tourist
