From the 16th to 18th century, countries in Europe were experiencing new ideas and reforms. Philosophers like Locke believed in social equality. They have discussed the purpose of a government and spread their ideas. Locke’s ideas led to the revolution in France, who didn’t have rights under absolute monarch’s control. After the French gained their rights, people in Haiti started to fight because they wanted to have the same rights that French gained during the reform.
It is understood that John Locke played a key role of influence on Thomas Jefferson. This influence can be seen through Jefferson’s writing on the nation’s founding document. This document is called the Declaration of Independence. John Locke, the English Enlightenment philosopher wrote his Two Treatises of Government to refute the belief that kings ruled by divine right and to support the Glorious Revolution of 1688 (Doc 1). This piece of political philosophy provided many explanations for the people’s rights and obligations to overthrow a corrupt government.
John Locke was a philosopher, and political scientist. He believed democracy was a considerably better form of government than a monarchy. Thomas Jefferson was the third U.S. president, and was one of America’s founding fathers. He was the author of the Declaration of Independence, and played a key role in the institution of the United States of America. John Locke was a very influential person when it came to Thomas Jefferson and the ideas within the Declaration of Independence.
Adam Smith believed in individual economic decision-making because the people would be able to pursue their own interests without government input. In Adam Smith’s The Wealth Of Nations, Document C, he writes, “The [ruler] is completely discharged... no human wisdom or knowledge could ever be sufficient”. Adam Smith believed that without government interference every man can pursue his own interests in his own way.
Locke wants people to stand up for the rights that they deserved. Jefferson wanted to create a government contract for the people, which would allow for them to become an independent nation. Locke’s declaration creates revolts and made the American people start thinking about what they wanted for themselves. His declaration caused damage to the great nation until Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence which united the people.
He took the decision to study medicine in England. John Locke believed that one could choose the religion that they most liked. He became an influential philosopher writing about political philosophy, education and epistemology. His writing helped the foundation of modern Western philosophy. In the year 1690 he published an essay about the understanding of human, which became a great impact in his career.
He supported an economic system based on individual decision-making because he believed that if every person becomes wealthy, then the whole nation will be stronger and wealthier. Smith, also believed that the government shouldn 't be involved in trade and economic decisions-making. He wanted each person to be responsible for themselves. John Locke believed in life, liberty, and property and Thomas Jefferson believed in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You can already see they had both had the same view point , they both believed in democracy, the people had the right to overthrow a government if they feel like if there are abusing their rights since they are supposed to protect the people’s rights, and they both believed all men were created equal. The differences they had were that John Locke believed people had the right to happiness, believed the separation of powers through legislative and executive branches, and believed in the privacy for people’s personal affairs.
