John F. Kennedy was the first President to promote a different way of looking at fellow Americans. He preached the idea of fighting against tyranny, poverty, disease and war. One of his biggest achievements was trying to end racism and eliminate segregation. On June 11, 1963 the President took actions and proposed a new Civil Rights bills and went on television urging the American people to end racism. John F. Kennedy only saw Americans as Americans and not by skin color or ethnicity. However, on November 22, 1963 the President was shot in a car while waving to the crowd in Dallas Texas. John F. He married Coretta Scott King and they had 4 kids. King was a Baptist minister who devoted most of his life to the civil rights movements of the 1960's. He was known all over the world for his non-violent protest in Washington DC. Up until this point, almost all protest that has happened within the US were more of a violent protest even though they were not called "violent protest", it was just how it normally ended the protest. This was something he was good at though was getting a group of people together and making sure they stayed nice and calm while still getting his point across. All of these 8 peaceful protests were all out civil rights for all people. On 28th of August 1963 Mr. King gave his famous "I have a dream" speech. This was attuned by nearly 250,000 people, which were all there to support the civil rights movement that he was representing. He was assassinated in 1968 in a motel in Memphis Tennessee by James Earl Ray. From 1961 to 1964 the United States increased their budget by almost 500 percent and employee over 34,000 NASA employees. The reason for this increase was the creation of Apollo. Despite several setbacks on July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 was launched into space for the first lunar landing attempt (History, 2016). The astronauts involved with the mission included Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man in the world to walk on the moon's surface. His most famous quote while taking his first steps was "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" (History, 2016). By landing on the moon, it gave the victory to the United States for the space race even though Sputnik launched a successful satellite first in 1957. The most important part of the space race and Apollo 11 was it was covered in the national media bringing in a huge number of viewers.
