On Tuesday January 15, 1929, Martin Luther King Jr. was born to his parents Reverend Marin Luther King Sr. and Alberta King a part time school teacher and the a pianist at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. His household included his grandparents as well as his older sister Willie Christine and younger brother Alfred Daniel William King. His father changed both of their names to Martin Luther on tribute to a protestant leader in Germany when he was six years old. When King and his siblings where little, they took piano lessons from his mother and they also enjoyed playing sports such as football and baseball. Martin thought it his grandmother dying was his fault because he wasn’t there and they were so close. He attempted to suicide by jumping out the second story window at the family home. King then attended Booker T. Washington high school where he was said to be an intelligent student. The he skipped the ninth and eleventh grades. The reason King didn’t graduate high school because he was offered a program in which it would accept high school juniors who could pass and entrance exam. King passed the exam and was accepted into college.
At the age of fifteen, king attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He visited the Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester Pennsylvania which was the first integrated school that he had ever went too. King also became the African American student body president and later graduated with a B.A. in sociology. Later after he attended Boston University where he earned his Ph.D. Martin was so disobedient against his father’s conservative views by drinking beer and playing pool while in college.
