Martin Luther King Jr
The Civil Rights era was one of the most influential time periods in America, full of many great leaders. These leaders were not only important they were necessary. MLK not only changed the perspectives of people, but also gave people hope and the motivation they needed to keep going for a to create a better future. King was very inspirational for de-segregationists, he had an educated background, and impacted the future of many people.
Dr. Martin Luther King´s educated background made him very reliable during the Civil Rights Movement. MLK was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born with the name Michael Luther King Jr, but changed it later in his life (Nobel Prize). His father was a Baptist preacher who was involved in the civil rights movement (Spartacus). He heard a lecture on Gandhi and then researched more about how to revolt without violence. He thought that the ways that Gandhi used in India could work for blacks in the United States as well. King was also influenced by David Thourou (Spartacus). After he visited India in 1957, King was even more set on getting nonviolent protests in the US. That same year, King, joined with Reverend Ralph David Abernathy and Bayard Rustin, went to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference- a group made to lead the civil rights movement, to help discuss the use of nonviolent techniques (Nobel Prize).
