Mary Shelley was born on August 30 1797 in Somers Town, Great Britain. Her parents were well known because her Mother was a feminist and her father was a philosopher, journalist, and a writer. But when Mary Shelley was born, her Mother died from giving birth. So Mary Shelley was raised by her biological father and her step mother for all of her life. Mary Shelley grew up in London with her three year old sister whose name was Fanny Imlay. Mary Shelley mostly grew up separately from her sister. Mary Shelley always went by what her father taught her. The way that Mary Shelley got her education was mostly by her father and books. Mary Shelley loved to learn from books because she loved to read. She learned almost everything that she needed to know from reading books. Right before Mary Shelley turned seventeen, she wrote two books that were about Gothic romances. Those two books were the first books that Mary Shelley ever wrote, and they were called, "Zastrozzi" and "St. Irvyne". After she wrote those two books, she started to write other books that became very popular over the years. In 1816, Mary Shelley was spending time with her husband and his friend in Geneva Switzerland. This is when they all came up with the idea to write a ghost story. So this is when Mary Shelley wrote one of her most famous books called, “Frankenstein”. After her book Frankenstein was published, she began to write more famous books. The other famous books that Mary Shelley wrote after Frankenstein were The Last Man, Mathilda, Valperga, Lodore, and The Fortunes of Perkin Warbeck. All of these books were very popular back then and are still popular
